WHAT IS BRAY COASTCARE GROUP?

Bray Coastcare Group is a voluntary community group whose main aims are to keep Bray’s beautiful coastal areas clean, free of litter, maintained to a good standard and to unlock the massive potential of the town’s coastal areas.

HISTORY OF BRAY COASTCARE GROUP

The group was set up in April 2007 after one local townsperson who was participating in the Good Friday procession up to the cross on Bray Head was so shocked at the amount of litter in the area that he put an advert in the paper for volunteers to help clean the area up. At about the same time another man from the area was beginning to try to clean-up the Cliff Walk area. Both individuals were put in contact with each other by An Taisce and the group was established. The group has grown since then and at the moment there are over 125 local volunteers on the groups emailing list and more and more people sign up as each cleanup takes place and the awareness of the group grows.

Since setting up as a voluntary group the volunteers have collected and removed approximately 30 tonnes of rubbish from the area! At each cleanup they fill at least one skip full of rubbish ranging from beer cans to rusted bicycles, broken televisions and washing machines to everything else you can imagine.

WHAT DO THE VOLUNTEERS DO?

They hold monthly clean-ups and activities such as hedge cutting and path maintenance on the second Saturday of every month from 12-3pm in the following areas Bray Head, The Cliff Walk, Naylor’s Cove, The Harbour, and The River Dargle.

WHAT ELSE DO THE GROUP DO?

They encourage businesses in the general area to get involved as part of their own Team BUilding activities. In a time when many training budgets are under severe pressure, an afternoon with Bray Coastcare can provide an excellent vehicle for both Team Building AND making a valuable contribution to the local community

They have also held action days with several local schools on Bray’s beach itself encouraging young people to take ownership of and to respect their local surroundings. Since setting up as a voluntary group the volunteers have collected and removed approximately 30 tonnes of rubbish from the area!l. At each cleanup they fill at least one skip full of rubbish ranging from beer cans to rusted bicycles, broken televisions and washing machines to everything else you can imagine.

DOES YOUR COMPANY WANT SOME FREE TEAM BUILDING TRAINING AND CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY??

Bray Coastcare are always keen to facilitate companies who want to combine their internal training activities with some external community involvement. In these current difficult financial times, training budgets are often stretched very thin. Coastcare can offer you the chance of FREE Team Building AND the chance to give something back to the community. Oh and the publicity doesn't hurt either!
